EFM Speed

EFM can achieve impressive speeds, of up to 35Mbs. These speeds can vary however, depending on the distance between you and your nearest local exchange.

EFM is becoming increasingly attractive for today’s businesses thanks to the symmetrical data download and upload speeds that it provides, which is beneficial for larger data transfers and critical to the performance of popular VOIP, VPN and Cloud Computing platforms.

EFM Cost

Bridging the gap between business grade broadband and the higher speed, traditional Ethernet or Megastream service connections, EFM is ideal for customers demanding greater bandwidth and performance than is currently available with business broadband, but at a price that is still affordable.

Thanks to the quality of an always-on, highly resilient connection, EFM opens up further business cost efficiencies, as it provides a level of service comparable only to that offered by much larger, but more expensive traditional Ethernet leased lined connections.

What is Ethernet-in-the-First-Mile (EFM)?

EFM is an affordable leased line service that can deliver an extremely reliable, high speed Internet connection for your business.

EFM uses bundles of copper pairs (in the first mile of the circuit where bottle necks usually occur), to increase speed, resilience and reduce installation time. Its availability is constantly increasing.

Why would I need Ethernet-in-the-First-Mile?

If you require enhanced performance and reliability to run business critical applications or VOIP, VPN and video conferencing, without buffering or any other latency issues, then EFM is a suitable connectivity option for you.

EFM's availability across multiple copper pairs ensures that it can provide enhanced resilience and reliability. Should one pair fail, there will be an automatic failover to the other pair, to ensure the highest possible levels of service reliability.

How long will my Ethernet-in-the-First-Mile service take to install?

The full process can take up to 90 days, depending on whether or not the right infrastructure is already available in your building and the number of copper pairs you are looking to install. This timeframe also includes the installation of an EFM card into your exchange.

How long will it take for my Ethernet-in-the-First-Mile service to go live?

Once we have finished any necessary pre-build work, completed installation and engineering work and had your EFM circuit handed over to us, it normally takes another three days for your new services to go live.

How long will you take to process my order?

The processing of an EFM order can typically take up to 5 days.

Will you manage my Ethernet-in-the-First-Mile service?

We can offer 24/7, 365 support, as part of a Fully Managed service that includes a 7 hour response time. This could also include the option of an auto failover so service isn't interrupted.

What Service Level Agreement (SLA) is available with Ethernet-in-the-First-Mile?

Your leased line service will be backed up by a strong SLA's, which includes guaranteed fix times.

Falling Cost of EFM Fuelling New Generation of Communications

The falling price of EFM has led to the introduction of a new generation of services such as SIP over EFM, which are lowering the costs and enhancing the quality and efficiency of business communications.

Thanks to the superior network resilience and reliability of EFM that helps to minimise downtime and SIPs ability to enable faster provisioning of new lines, SIP over EFM services can generate cost savings. With the increased bandwidth that EFM connectivity provides, SIP over EFM can also improve the performance and quality of VoIP services.

SIP over EFM users can now transmit data over their network too, making it possible to deploy solutions such as Microsoft Lync. With access to instant messaging and presence; voice, video, multimedia conferencing and other real-time communications services, businesses can boost the efficiency of their communications and reduce costs.
